Myer Millinery Award 2018 Finalist
I made the Finals! This year I made my way down to compete in the Myer Millinery Award in Melbourne (and snuck in a mini break to celebrate)
In true Ren fashion I came up with the most fantastical idea - I wanted to make a headpiece entirely out of copper. Yes, Copper.
This piece, worn ever so gracefully by my Mel, my model extraordinaire of @SydneyStyle fame, is a precariously perching wide brimmed stunner made from copper sheeting and finished with hand made copper flowers and a crochet copper wire snood.
Copper obsessed? Yes.
Move over needle and thread and make room for the soldering iron and tin snips. The flowers were also flame painted so add to the sewing basket a flame torch and multiple trips to the hardware and jewellers store for drill bits and saw blades. Extreme hatting here in mostly unknown territory but the usual ridiculous hours and long sessions into the night fuelled by tea.
The end result was extraordinary. The reflections, the colour. Copper is a beautifully generous material and I can't wait to see where else I will take her to
