In with a winner!
I'm pretty happy to say I've come out all smiles at the Caussade International Millinery competition!
I came in third place after the multi-award winning Catherine Ellen of Melbourne and master milliner Vladimir Straticiuc of Spain so i'm pretty chuffed to have made it in such good company.
My piece 'The Braided Cartwheel' was made of braid and parasissol straw. I've made the brim and crown with a single red starbright braid hand stitched into freehand swirls. It took quite a while but I love the effect it has created. I arranged the braid into loops, pinned these in place once I was happy with the arrangement and then stitched the loop ends together. Once I had a big enough piece I placed this in position on the brim block and then continued positioning and then stitching the loops, this time at an angle.
